Family Fun Day

The Club held their first "Family Fun Day" for Club members on Sunday 30th August 2009, and tentatively held their breath hoping for some good weather. We were lucky, as the morning was very sunny and the boats and canoes were ready for action by 1.30pm, but then gradually the clouds made an appearance for the rest of the day.

The racing started with all the sailors having to sail an unfamiliar craft which resulted in some large people being in very small boats and vice versa. As the wind became very gusty, all their sailing experience was needed to keep from capsizing and the joint winners of these races were Tom Brown & Lee Morris. The canoeing races were over a short course on which sat many yellow plastic ducks, which had to be quickly retrieved while the rescue boat tried its best to create very choppy water there were a few capsizes! The winner/survivor of this race was Paul Ridley.

We had hoped for more children being there and many games were ready for action, but the table tennis found most of the adults having a great time and boules and welly throwing were tried out when not on the water. As rain started a barbeque was lit and the usual sausages burnt, but the general feeling was that a great unusual fun day had been had and all went home tired and happy.
